ARW Information: About Summer Reading assignment

Dear BE & BJ,

Hello. How are you?

As a couple of students have now asked me about Summer Reading, I think I should let everyone know that your Summer Reading Assignment is decided by your new teacher. He/she will visit next week or give the handout to me to pass on to you. In either case, you will know in time and you should not worry.

Have a nice day,

Owen.

ARW Request: Please share your answer on the DIY Textbook

Dear BE & BJ,

It was really quite hard to choose 'best' answers, there were some exceptional 'summary' parts and some exceptional 'discussion' parts, and it was also unfortunate that I could only select one answer for each question. However, these are some of the 'best' answers that were strong overall. These are the answers that I would like to see shared on the DIY, BE 'Best of' Meiland PWT Practice Test Answers & BJ 'Best of' Meiland PWT Practice Test Answers:

1. Difference high school and collage
2. Subversive institution
3. Why reasons matter
4. Purpose of education
5. New kinds of intellectual work
6. Obvious belief
7. Responsibility for learning
8. Good reason

BE:
1. Mariko or Takaomi
2. Eri or Asato
3. Masahiko
4. Aiko
5. Kazuaki
6. Ken
7. Kafu
8. -

BJ:
1. Michiko or Taku
2. Tomoha
3. -
4. Keiko
5. Yumeno or Jun
6. Yan Ghee
7. -
8. -

Thank you and all the best on Friday,

Owen.

ARW Information: More time for Second Draft of Essay

Dear BE & BJ,

Hello, how are you?

Please note these changes to the current homework:

1. Essay: Second Draft WAS due 5/18 M, NOW due 5/20 W.

2. Argumentation: 'Close Reading' & Note-taking Aaron 11a WAS due 5/20 W, NOW 5/18 M.

In other words, a little more time for writing, a little less for reading. A bit easier for you too, I think.

Other news:

3. Owen will be in hospital from Monday afternoon, probably until Sunday. I will let you know the arrangements for next week on Monday.

4. Please note different class times due to C-Week: P1 8.50-9.50* P2 10.00-11.00* P3 11.10-12.10* Lunch 12.10-14.30* P4 14.30-15.30* P5 15.40-16.40* P6 16.50-17.50*
.

All the best,

Owen.

Your ARW Class Discussion

Dear BE & BJ,

We saw the first Class Discussion sessions today and they all contained strong points. Thank you again to Imon, Takaomi, Keiko, & Jun! The sessions today provide a great beginning for each of you to build on and develop further.

A couple of points:
  • Visual aids: Think of your visuals as information you can talk about, not information (in words) to be read. If you find yourself reading your visuals, it almost certainly means that they are not visual enough. It is important to keep your visuals visual. (P.S. You can make notes (key words & phrases on the back of your visuals, but you should not write a script to be read.)
  • Preparation: There is an excellent student sample on my door (ILC 265B). I thoroughly recommend you take even a little bit of time to look at it. Taking 5-10 minutes now could save you much more later. As well, I recommend that you start work on your session two lessons before. In other words, if your session is this Friday, I think you should start now.
  • Your session: The Spring Schedule on the ARW Homepage contains all the details of what we have done or will do in class. If you do not know the date of your session or do not know the page numbers of your section, all the details are on the Schedule. You should not print this page though, because it changes almost every day. In ARW this term, you need to learn to check it regularly.
Thank you, I really love the start you have made this year!

Owen.
